FOOD: Paleo Sweet Potato Burgers

Nothing beats a good burger! On a paleo diet the most obvious way to eat a burger is either bunless or using portobello mushrooms as a replacement for the buns. Going bunless  just doesn’t feel right to me and the portobello mushrooms can be…well a little too mushroomie. Therefor I went on the hunt for the perfect paleo burger bun. When one day I bumped into this paleo sandwich recipe,  I knew I had found my bun!

For the bun you’ll need:

– 1 sweet potato

– 1/2 cup of ghee or goose fat

what you’ll do:

– just slice up the potato into thin (not too thin) slices and fry in the ghee or goose fat for about 10 minutes

– take the slices out of the pan and pat them dry

– put the slices in the oven for 8 minutes to crisp

 

 

for the burger I’m gonna share a 50/50/50 burger recipe from The Paleo Mom. Why this recipe? Because it doesn’t call for spices or onions and therefor it’s good for people with stomach problems such as acid reflux. If you like to add some red onion, garlic or other stuff, feel free to do that (it won’t spoil the recipe).

What you’ll need:

– 1 pound or half a kilo of ground beef

– 1 pound or half a kilo of liver (any liver you enjoy)

– 1 pound or half a kilo of bacon

What you’ll do:

– grind up the liver and bacon (you can use an inexpensive meat grinder )

– mix the liver and bacon with the ground beef

– form the patties

– bake your patties

For the toppings I like to use:

– slices of avocado or avocado mouse

– fresh spinach leaves

if you don’t have stomach problems:

– caramelized onions: slice up an onion (or two), heat up some ghee in a pan, add the onions and sauté until lightly caramelized then add 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and sauté for another couple of minutes

– slices of tomato
